Those of you that are closest to us know that we have been trying to have a baby for a while (well over a year). So far it hasn’t been a part of God’s timing and we aren’t sure why. I won’t go in too many details about that. I’m sure one day we will have a baby naturally…or maybe we won’t. We’re not sure what God has in mind. What we do know is that he has put it on our hearts to open our hearts and our home up to becoming parents in a different way.
Matt and I have decided to begin the process of becoming Foster Parents. The process takes some time and training and we are very excited to begin this journey. Our hope is that we will have everyone’s love, support and prayers while we experience this new chapter in our lives and take things one day at a time. We have already completed the initial orientation process and have been invited to begin the training sessions which start next week and will run for the next 8-10 weeks or so. After the training there are many other steps in the process as well but we are just trying to take it one step at a time so it is not too overwhelming.
To start this journey, we will begin setting up a nursery in our home. Our intended age range is 0-4. We hope to possibly adopt some of the precious angels God brings to us if the opportunity presents itself however we aren’t naive to the fact that the ultimate goal of Foster Parenting is reunification of the child to their natural parents or blood relatives.
With that being said, we are hopeful that anyone that has gently used baby or toddler items for both boys and girls, baby/toddler furniture, toys, clothes etc that you were just going to donate anyway might consider donating those items to us.
It feels awkward asking this as we all know I especially hate to ask anyone for anything, but all our friends/family that are parents tell us all the time how soon their kids grow out of things and don’t use things anymore. We are starting with nothing and there aren’t typically baby showers for people whom aren’t pregnant or whom aren’t sure when they will be receiving a little one. SO basically we are going to be those people on Facebook that ask for donations (stuff not money) and be proud of it. These items will go toward making little ones happy and cared for and loved. They will go towards the effort of making our home a happy noise filled place full of laughter, love, cries, toys, learning and safety for the little ones that so desperately need it.
Your support is appreciated. Even if you have nothing to donate, simply your kind words of support and love are appreciated and needed as well. This journey is going to be difficult and has potential to be heart breaking as some of the little ones that will come to our home won’t be able to stay forever. Say a prayer for us if you don’t mind. It is truly appreciated. This is going to be one roller coaster of a ride and we’re ready to strap in and take things as they come.
Love and blessings to you all as we enter a new year.
Matt & Jess
